Design scientist Dr. Melissa Sterry takes a look at the potential for urban/peri-urban resilience to wildfires through the creation of complex adaptive architectural systems. By mimicking the biochemistries, behaviours, and relationships of fire-adapted flora and fauna species, our society could create towns and cities that cycle in symbiosis with wildfire in its varied forms. Joining journalist Kate Ravilious, Sterry considers the urgent need to examine the challenge of living with wildfire as a vital landscape process.
